It is interesting on how internet is opening up opportunities every day. Content is everywhere and for everyone. I am suprised to note that even full length movies are available on youtube.

I watched Hindi movie Hulchul. This is a remake of telugu movie Peddarikam. I watched this movie when I was in college.  Telugu movie was a surprising entertainer as we didn’t know what to expect. A good mix of comedy and action.

Flavors is a nice movie that I liked watching a lot. I really recommend watching the movie, if you have not watched it before. Instead of writing my own review, I am providing link to the detailed movie review

“I really enjoyed Flavors. Whether it was because I related to the characters, or I feel an affinity for Indian-American films, or because it was just a well written and well acted film, there was something about the movie that I admired. Make no mistake, this is a low budget film, and it has the look of a low budget film. But once you get past that, you’re left with a solid film, with a good story and fun and interesting characters. Let’s start with the story lines.”

Movie Review: Oh God

As I continue to read Conversations with God books, I feel communication with God. As it is said when you are ready, the message reaches you. I really find it amazing as I find more and more ways in which the inspiration and communication comes to us once we focus on God.

Recently I happened to come across movie “Oh, God”. It was an old movie but contained what God wants to convey to any human being. This movie is about a Grocery stores Clerk who happens to be selected by God to spread his message. At first he finds it difficult to believe. He is mocked for his claims. As he is convinced that he is really talking to God, he persists. His persistence finally makes him really convey the meaning. Despite all this, he looses his job. When he gets frustrated during the process and exclaims to God that he is not confident that his message is heard, God tells him that it is fine. He just needs to be a messenger and when the message goes out at least a few of them will catch the message and believe him.

The same happened to me. As I watched the movie, the conversations were really compelling. I felt it is truly a message from God conveyed in a different way. Watch the movie if you get a chance.

There is also a sequel called Oh, God, Book II. This was also made very simple and makes a good watch. I have watched a few more spiritually inspirational movies. I plan to post reviews of them soon.

Views: Song and Dance Sequences in Indian Movies

Lot of western people who watch Indian Movies find it difficult to accept song and dance sequences when compared to movies from Hollywood. The fact that people are singing and dancing is found to be odd and absurd since this does not happen anytime in any person’s normal life. This makes the movies appear far from reality.

My explanation to this concept is: Song and Dance sequences in movies depict interaction between the souls involved in the event than actual persons. When two persons are seen on the screen dancing or singing, it is depiction of the two souls sharing either joy or sorrow as appropriate to the situation. When you see two persons dancing around the bushes with a set of dancers, it is not depiction of something that happens in real life. When two persons want to celebrate a happy in moment their life, they would want to enjoy without holding back. If it is really allowed, it is possible these two persons will really rejoice without any inhibition.

Of course, the concept is stretched a little many times. Instead of using the situation to include song and dance into the movie, songs are thrust into situations though inappropriate. This makes it look odd.

Don’t ridicule this because lot of people identify themselves with the celebration or sorrow songs. They convey the mood more effectively than other methods. Overall, I wanted to convey my point of view that, Song and Dance sequences will not sound absurd if think in this perspective.

Review: It could happen to you

I happened to watch this movie recently on my friend’s recommendation.

Movie is quite good with a simple story. A good cop known for his good natures, buys a lottery ticket when he is nagged by his wife who always wants more money. He gives a word to a waitress to give half of his lottery earning as tip in a casual manner. That night he discovers that he won 4 million dollars for the lottery ticket. He keeps his word and gives 2 million dollars to waitress who happened to just go bankrupt. It changes life of both. Cop’s wife relishes the riches and spends lavishly whereas the cop wants a simple and happy life. He gradually gets attracted to the waitress.  Cop’s wife wants divorce and goes to court wanting entire 4 million dollars even when cop is willing to give his share of money without any contest.  She wins the case and both cop and waitress loose entire money. But they still love each other and are still pure at heart. This goodness gets properly rewarded as everyone in city and country donate money to the couple in recognition of their goodness.
<
I wondered what made me like the movie so much.
<
Many times we find people/organizations are generous in their donations to charitable organizations.  Many times these donations come after they have taken care of themselves first. In this movie circumstances are so compelling that one will feel cop keeping entire 4 millions dollars to himself will be the right thing to do to make his wife happy. But he goes extra length to extend 2 millions dollars just to keep his word. No one can imagine doing such a thing other than in a ‘fairy tale’. This is a goodness that very few can actually do or experience.

Unselfishness of a single person can make a big impact and that is the main thing I liked in this movie. When one can be unselfish and take care of others needs before one’s own needs then it is truly a divine quality and very inspiring. This simple movie gave me simple inspiration that is so often conveyed in spiritual books.

I remember reading a moral story which conveys same message:

Once upon a time there was a poor family which found it very hard to earn their food. The family is starving for days and finally manages to get some food on a particular day. As the family was preparing to eat their meager food a person comes there asking for food. ‘Serving Guest’ is important and head of family gives up his share of food and feeds the guest. The guest still feels hungry. Then wife also gives up her share of food. Still guest feels hungry. Then even the children give up their share of food for the sake of serving the Guest. After that the Guest who is God in human form grants them with everything for their ‘unselfishness’.
